Has anyone ever noticed that every recession is followed by a surprise occurence leading us to recovery?
What I mean is, am I the only one who has caught on to the fact that for the past few recessions, economist frequently predict 10 years of economic stagnation, but some new technology or event uplifts the economy? During the 80s recession, people talked about the coming decade being full of stagnation and high unemployment, but instead we got the longest peacetime expansion in U.S. history up to that point, and the same happened again in the 90s and then the Internet came and took us by storm. I firmly believe it'll happen again. I want to know what technology or policy might bring our economy to salvation. Any ideas?
